<a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/apple-tv\/\">Apple TV Plus<\/a>’s pockets – but the payback has been immense.<\/p>\n<p>The second outing of the dystopian workplace drama <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/07\/highly-anticipated-200-000-000-sci-fi-show-2025-worth-wait-22312887\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cost $200,000,000 (\u00a3159.9million) to make<\/a> or $20m (\u00a315m) per episode, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>But it was money well spent as the streamer has reported Severance has become its most-watched show in history overtaking the life-affirming sitcom <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/ted-lasso\/\">Ted Lasso<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Half of Severance’s second season is still yet to land on Apple TV Plus but it has already overtaken ratings for all three seasons of the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/jason-sudeikis\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Jason Sudeikis<\/a> football show.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/02\/severance-ratings-season-2-apple-most-watched-series-1236294760\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deadline<\/a> reports that Severance has scored 589 million minutes viewed in the US over all existing episodes, with 28% of that figure on the opening episode of season two.<\/p>\n<p>That number is also expected decides to join Lumon – a controversial company that consensually performs surgical operations on their employees to divide the memories in-work (innie) and out-work (outie) selves – to forget the pain of his wife’s death.<\/p>\n<p>However, his innie, along with co-workers Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Irving (John Turturro), become increasingly disgruntled by Lumon and its shadowy operations and concoct devious schemes to uncover the actual nature of their mysterious work.<\/p>\n<p>When Severance returned in January <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/17\/fans-hail-first-minutes-of-200000000-tv-show-that-made-3-year-wait-worth-it-22384630\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">after three years<\/a>, fans said the agonising wait – exacerbated by a huge cliffhanger at the end of season one was ‘worth it.’<\/p>\n<p>X user @ChicagoBulldawg exclaimed: \u2018How do I explain to someone who hasn\u2019t watched this that a minute straight scene of mark running through the severed floor is literal peak television.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>@lippasbae agreed: \u2018You know when Adam Scott running outta elevator in the opening sequence with epic cinematography and the coolest camera work is bound to be a PEAK TELEVISION. what an insane opening of season 2.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"414\" – scoring 97% on reviews aggregator <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/rotten-tomatoes\/\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Walken, who plays retired employee Burt, previously revealed to <strong>Metro<\/strong> his theory <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/21\/christopher-walken-i-dont-kids-hobbies-like-work-22394119\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about the success of the show.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said: ‘I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s mysterious, it\u2019s entertaining. You\u2019re always interested in what happens next. It\u2019s got the ingredients of what people like to watch.’<\/p>\n<p>As for what’s to come in the remaining episodes of season two, Britt previously told AV Club: ‘There\u2019s a rollercoaster ahead that I feel like no one is ready for. I think what\u2019s cool now is that you can and should go back and rewatch the first four episodes to pick up on new things before you dive into five.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018One of the big questions of the series is who has autonomy over their bodies. Is it the outie, the innie, or both? (Apple TV+ via AP)\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The dystopian drama is also a huge critical hit (Picture: AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fans will be relieved that Severance\u2019s director \u2013 Hollywood legend <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/ben-stiller\/\">Ben Stiller<\/a> \u2013 has already teased a third outing.<\/p>\n<p>He told <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/severance-season-3-plans-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Collider<\/a>: \u2018You have a responsibility to the audience that you\u2019re going somewhere with it.
