data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a> crime drama Adolescence, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/ashley-walters\/\">Ashley Walters<\/a> went the extra mile\u2026 joining the police on a real raid in <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/liverpool-fc\/\">Liverpool<\/a> that was \u2018crazy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The gripping new series, which launches today and is <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-drama-adolescences-trick-isnt-a-gimmick-vital-22714138\/\">filmed in ‘one-shot’<\/a>, follows a 13-year-old boy called Jamie (Owen Cooper) who\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-add-most-terrifying-show-parents-ever-tomorrow-22712558\/\">arrested when accused of murdering a girl<\/a> from his <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/school\/\">school<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Owen,15, making a star-making turn in his first ever acting role, the cast also boasts <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/stephen-graham\/\">Stephen Graham<\/a> as Jamie\u2019s dad Eddie, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/24\/invigorating-erin-doherty-show-a-thousands-blows-binge-immediately-22618928\/\">Erin Doherty<\/a> as the teenager\u2019s psychologist Briony and Ashley as DI Luke Bascombe, who\u2019s in charge of investigating the case.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the release date, <strong>Metro <\/strong>spoke to Ashley and Erin to delve further into roles, which is when the <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/top-boy\/\">Top Boy<\/a> star revealed the extreme lengths he went to when preparing to play a police detective in the thick of the action.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I went on a raid,\u2019 the 42-year-old shared, while Erin, 32, expressed her shock over her co-star\u2019s revelation while she was sitting next to him in the Courtesy of Netflix ?? 2024\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The actor plays a police detective investigating the murder of a schoolgirl (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ashley explained how he first went to the police station to set up with the officers in the morning, and was able to watch the conference where the lead detective \u2018is telling the officers who we\u2019re going for, why, what\u2019s going on\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Then, he \u2018jumped in the van with loads of armed police\u2019 and drove to the person\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike in Adolescence, when the police batter down the door of Jamie\u2019s family home, in real life, the man who the police were apprehended opened the door for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I kind of stayed back, because obviously I was thinking, I shouldn’t be allowed to go inside. And the police were like, no, come in with us,\u2019 Ashley recalled.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So literally, they had this guy handcuffed on the floor, and I’m walking around his house, and they’re looking for whatever they’re looking for. Courtesy of Netflix ?? 2024\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Ashley said that the real police raid he went on in Liverpool was ‘crazy’ (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While it was a fascinating experience for Ashley to have, he explained that when the time came to film Adolescence, he put all of the information that he\u2019d learnt out of his mind so that he could focus solely on playing Luke.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There were a few things I picked up, maybe body language and mannerisms and stuff. But Luke is\u2026 in this he’s a man that has a son that really wants to know why this is happening. And that was the most important thing to embody, for me,\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The rest of it, it all came together by itself. I was really eager to do it, but it did hit home that where the world is and what’s going on in people’s lives,\u2019 he shared.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The area [the raid] was, you wouldn’t have expected this situation to be happening there. So it did make me think, that could be my next door [neighbour]. I was conscious that what you needed to see was someone who was present, rather than having that context.
