href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a>’s buzziest <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/13\/ashley-walters-i-joined-a-crazy-police-raid-netflix-crime-drama-22718192\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drama Adolescence.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/top-boy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Top Boy<\/a> actor, 42, plays detective Luke Bascombe who is investigating the murder of a school girl in the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/17\/adolescence-ending-explained-hidden-detail-netflix-drama-leaves-fans-broken-22739512\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acclaimed four-part production<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/15\/7-top-stephen-graham-performances-need-watch-adolescence-22726929\/\">Stephen Graham<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2020\/11\/08\/his-dark-materials-interview-with-writer-jack-thorne-about-season-2-13558477\/\">Jack Thorne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Her 13-year-old classmate Jamie (<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/18\/star-netflixs-adolescence-next-role-revealed-includes-a-list-hollywood-stars-22748311\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Owen Cooper<\/a>) is the prime suspect in a show that explores how <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-add-most-terrifying-show-parents-ever-tomorrow-22712558\/\">incel<\/a> culture and the internet are detrimentally impacting young boys.<\/p>\n<p>The harrowing drama used a one-shot filming technique, with director Philip Barantini previously explaining to <strong>Metro<\/strong> it was <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-drama-adolescences-trick-isnt-a-gimmick-vital-22714138\/\">not a ‘gimmick’<\/a> but a means to force the audience to pay attention.<\/p>\n<p>However, during one such scene, Ashley said he nearly cried after accidentally calling an actor by the wrong name and was concerned he had ruined the take.<\/p>\n<div You know when like you\u2019ve dropped the ball? It’s like you’re dropping a ball for everyone, do you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>‘It’s like a football team, bro. You’re playing together. And I was in bits, bro. Nearly in tears. Because it was such a good take, and he tried to make me feel better by like, “No, but maybe, you know, the character is so discombobulated\u2026”<\/p>\n<p>‘I was like, “Phil, let\u2019s just go again. Let\u2019s go again.”‘<\/p>\n<p>Philip previously used the filming technique for the 2019 film <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/03\/24\/boiling-point-was-the-netflix-film-shot-in-a-real-restaurant-16336970\/\">Boiling Point<\/a>, which also starred Stephen.<\/p>\n<p>But He explained to <strong>Metro<\/strong> he had reservations about shooting Adolescence in one shot: ‘When we talked about this project, and the one shot thing, we really talked about it quite seriously because I\u2019ve done Boiling Point, and I didn\u2019t want to be known as the guy who just does the one takes. You can\u2019t jump forward in time, you can\u2019t cut to another person, you can\u2019t go to a close-up.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ashley also told Metro he joined a police raid to prepare for Adolescence<\/p>\n<p>He explained: ‘I went on a raid with the police in Liverpool. \u00a0They arranged a trip for me. Phil [Adolescence director Philip Barantini] came and we literally went on a raid.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Unlike in Adolescence, when the police batter down the door of Jamie\u2019s family home, in real life, the man who the police were apprehended opened the door for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I kind of stayed back, because obviously I was thinking, I shouldn\u2019t be allowed to go inside. And the police were like, no, come in with us,\u2019 Ashley recalled.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So literally, they had this guy handcuffed on the floor, and I\u2019m walking around his house, and they\u2019re looking for whatever they\u2019re looking for.
