Jon Richardson<\/a> has revealed a new career move after joking he’s quitting comedy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The stand-up comedian and TV star, 42, revealed in an Instagram<\/a> video earlier this week that taking a break from the industry made him realise he wants to stay away from the limelight, and after reading a diary entry from 1997 he’s ready to pursue his dream of becoming a teacher<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve loved being a comedian, it was absolutely the right choice. But I\u2019ve decided that it would\u2019ve been nice to try the other option, so that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m gonna do,’ he shared in a video with his 187k followers.<\/p>\n

Jon told fans he’s been training and taken on a teaching position, and was showered in support from fans and friends alike, but it has now been confirmed that he is in fact just starring in Waterloo Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said: \u2018I would say that joining Waterloo Road is a dream come true, but in truth most of my dreams about school revolve around not having done my homework or put on my uniform.<\/p>\n

\u2018I wanted to be a teacher growing up so hopefully this role will put all those ambitions to bed, and I can stop telling my friends and family that I will be testing them on what I\u2019ve been saying or telling audiences on tour that it\u2019s their own time they\u2019re wasting.\u2019<\/p>\n

The move will add to his various TV appearances, but even if he did plan a jump into the public sector<\/a>, according to reports, Jon has a small fortune to fall back on.<\/p>\n

Richardson earn his huge fortune?<\/h2>\n<p>Jon soared to fame after winning his heat of the BBC New Talent Comedy Search in 2003, before reaching the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competition the following year.<\/p>\n<p>His first performance at the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End received glowing reviews, and just a few years later, after touring with Alan Carr, Jon’s first solo Edinburgh Fringe show, Spatula Pad, earned him a Best Newcomer nomination at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, he won the Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act, and took it around the country for his first solo tour.<\/p>\n<p>Following his stand-up success, Jon hit screens in various programmes, from Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You to taking shows.<\/p>\n<p>Around the same time, Jon revealed he had bought his mum a house in the Lake District.<\/p>\n<p>As well as his own TV and radio appearances, Jon has appeared in mockumentary sitcom alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/30\/jon-richardson-and-lucy-beaumont-on-meet-the-richardsons-season-four-18524430\/?ico=related-posts\">his now-ex-wife Lucy Beaumont, Meet The
