As <em><em>PAPER<\/em><\/em> witnessed last year when the duo played a crowded Mercury Lounge show, their sonics and respective transatlantic scenes (Newell is from London, Turner from LA) have given them the ideal perspective for a timeless, yet modern sound, layered under witty, sometimes dark, waggish lyrics. <\/p>\n<p>Ahead of shows in LA, and following sold-out gigs in NYC, the band spoke to <em><em>PAPER, <\/em><\/em>about the music video for \u201cDoomsday,\u201d \u2014 premiering here today \u2014 about miracles, the end of the world and \u201cgood old fashion existentialism.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"rm-shortcode\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"9236a3292c4665ea5d319a81cb676a60\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%\"><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sunday (1994) - Doomsday (Official Video)\" width=\"920\" height=\"690\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i_OM5XXxwSw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>What was the inspiration behind \u201cDoomsday\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When a rare good mood strikes, we must act \u2014 so naturally, we wrote a song called &#8220;Doomsday.&#8221; It\u2019s not about the end of the world, but rather the end of your world. When a miracle happens and we actually get what we want, we can\u2019t help but wonder: When is it all going to go wrong? Good, old-fashioned existentialism. Pair that with some guitar that\u2019s as silky as a gigolo\u2019s compliment, and you have &#8220;Doomsday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you hope your fans feel when they hear it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hope is a dangerous thing for a band like Sunday (1994) to have. We\u2019re just grateful that anyone is listening at all. <\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><img alt=\"\" class=\"rm-shortcode\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"011988ba74dc9511ddc3a28e0e6df63b\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" id=\"4c6b8\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/pilotshopworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/img-48.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you translate the song into the video?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love when a music video offers a glimpse into the band itself rather than telling a story. We\u2019re a band, after all\u2014not an acting troupe. So we just point a Super-8 camera in each other\u2019s faces until something looks good. Pepper in some slow motion twirling and you\u2019re on to a winner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some challenges you dealt with while creating the music video?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We shoot everything on film so there\u2019s not a lot of room for error, but that\u2019s also the charm of it. Orsen Welles said, &#8220;The enemy of art is the absence of limitations.&#8221; Which sounds terribly clever, so we\u2019ll leave it there.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><img alt=\"\" class=\"rm-shortcode\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"d5d37018aaa5ca0f513b5cda14f6cedd\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" id=\"6446e\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/pilotshopworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/img-49.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you working on and excited to share with fans next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re very thrilled about our upcoming debut headline tour in April and May. We\u2019ve been busy working on the show whilst finishing more new music, and it\u2019s something we\u2019re very proud of. To see dates selling out already is a fever dream. Well, maybe not quite a fever dream but it\u2019s very nice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any additional highlights you&#8217;d like to share with <\/strong><em><strong><em>PAPER<\/em><\/strong><\/em><strong> readers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been one year to the day since we released our first song, &#8220;Tired Boy.&#8221; So much has changed in our lives, and we\u2019re incredibly thankful. Feeling seen is a special thing \u2014 and having a Guinness makes it even better. So, we\u2019ll be doing exactly that.
